[English]

The adsorption behavior of antibiotics has a decisive role on their fate in soil and environmental pollution. In this study, the adsorption mechanism of ciprofloxacin as a widely used antibiotic and an emerging pollutant, was investigated in a calcareous soil sample using two and three parameter isotherm models. For this purpose, an experiment was conducted with different initial concentrations of ciprofloxacin (0 to 368 mg L-1) in the soil, and the concentration of antibiotic residues was measured using a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Two-parameter nonlinear equations of Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin - Radushkevich and three-parameter of Redlich - Peterson, Sips, Toth, Radke - Prausnitz and Hill were fitted on the experimental data. The results showed that the ciprofloxacin adsorption in the soil increased with increasing initial concentration, so that finally the adsorption capacity reached 25 mg g-1. Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm (R2=0.995, SE=0.00 and RSME=0.00), among the two-parameter models, and models of Sips and Hill (R2=0.998, SE=0.113 and RSME=0.095), among the three-parameter models had a better fit on the experimental data due to smaller error and larger correlation coefficient, and described well the adsorption behavior of ciprofloxacin in soil. The value of parameter n in Sips and Hill models was greater than one (1.38) and indicates the inhomogeneity of the adsorbent surface. The value of sorption energy E (kJ mol-1) in the Dubinin - Radushkevich equation was smaller than 8 (5 kJ mol-1), which indicate that the sorption process of ciprofloxacin on the calcareous soil sample was physical.
